Marseille is France’s second city, one of the busiest ports on the Mediterranean and has a busy airport to match.
The third largest French airport outside of Paris, and one of the few provincial airports to have two runways, Marseille offers flights to all parts of the world.
The airport is situated at Marignane, 25km northwest of Marseille and 25km south west of Aix en Provence, well sign posted from the motorway A7.

Marseille Airport Arrivals
Marseille Airport was the first in Europe to offer a terminal dedicated to low-cost flights. This terminal, known as MP2, is where most passengers from Britain and Ireland will arrive. The terminal building is not beautiful and it appears that corners have been cut regarding décor etc.
WiFi access is available in the main terminals but not in MP2. For live flight information look at Marseille Airport Arrivals
Marseille Airport Departures
The facilities at MP2, the new, low cost terminal at Marseille, are not brilliant and at busy times you can expect to spend an hour or so in the various queues.
No baggage trolleys are available and the terminal is a fair walk from the hire car parking area. If possible, drop off your passengers and luggage at the terminal before handing back your hire car. Live flight departures are available at Marseille Airport Departures
Marseille Airport Taxis
The taxi rank for Marseille Airport Taxis is situated outside Hall2. This is a bit of a walk from MP2 where most passengers from the UK and Ireland will arrive. The ride into the centre of Marseille will be about 50 euros, more after 7p.m. A better bet may be Marseille Airport Buses which run to several destinations or even Marseille Airport Car Hire.
Marseille Airport Buses
The buses at Marseille Airport are well organised and run to several destinations including Marseille, Aix en Provence, Salon en Provence and Digne.
For details of fares and times read our page on Marseille Airport Buses. If your group comprises more than 2 people and you have luggage, Marseille Airport Taxis will probably be a better bet.
Marseille Airport Parking
There is extensive parking at Marseille Airport extending over 9 car parks. In the short-term parks P2 and P8 the first 40 minutes are free making these the ideal ones to use if collecting or setting-down passengers.
If using the low cost terminal MP2, cark parks P1 and P3 are the nearest. There is also a cost-effective pre-bookable park known as cheque-parking. For full details, maps and tarrifs look at Marseille Airport Parking
Marseille Airport Bars and Restaurants
Most travellers from the UK and Ireland will use the low-cost terminal MP2. In MP2 the options for Marseille Airport Bars and Restaurants are slim. There are two cafés on the ground floor – Time Café is a french style café and Pasta Go serves Italian cuisine.
Upstairs, available to passengers only are the snack bar “Grab and Fly” and “La Terasse Provencale” selling regional specialities. After satisfying the hunger pangs, why not check out Marseille Airport Shops for those last-minute gifts?
Marseille Airport Shops
The shops in MP2 are all on the first floor of the building and therefore only accessible to passengers. In the main terminal, Halls 1-4, are several other shops including newsagents, a bakery and souvenir shops. Look at Marseille Airport Shops for full details. After shopping, Marseille Airport Bars and Restaurants will be the ideal place to while away the time until your flight is called.
Marseille Weather
Being in the South of France, the weather in Marseille is generally considerably better than in the UK. From time to time the infamous mistral wind blows down the Rhone Valley causing discomfort to all in its path but in summer visitors can expect a warm sunny climate.
