Is the end of Ryanair insight? Will this change ryanair flights from UK to Grenoble?

Michael O'Learly, Ryanair's flamboyant chief executive officer has said that he plans to step down in two or three years time.

The question is, what will this mean for Ryanair? It seems as though perhaps Ryanair is one of those companies that is built largely around the personality of its CEO so how would it fair if this larger than life character is no longer at the helm? Would it carry on as if nothing had changed? Will low fares be enough to continue Ryanair’s grip of the European flight market or would some of Ryanair’s most popular routes such as flights from UK to Grenoble suffer as a consequence? Only time will tell.

Air France flights to France to get interesting........

Air France flights to France are set to get a bit of an update in april 2010 say inside sources.

Unsurprisingly feeling the pinch of low cost airlines. Pierre Gourgeon, Air France-KLM Group CEO said “We have seen a slow erosion of our unit revenue since 2002 on short-and medium-haul routes. Despite the adjustments and changes that we have made in 2003/4 especially with more competitive fares, we continue to see our unit revenue plunging to levels unseen for over a decade. We had to react strongly.”

With this in mind, Air France is set to morph into two new segments, Premium and Voyageur.

Air France's Premium scheme will include business fares plus fully flexible economy fares, while Voyageur will offer low economy fares with little flexibility to change aiming at re-dressing the balance with the low cost airlines such as Ryanair and easyJet.

Gourgeon said that he is "convinced that we will see a rapid turn-around as we will gain market shares again in Europe thanks to our low fares in both leisure and business travel segments”

Ryanair closes check in desks.............

From 1st October Ryanair have now closed all its check in desks in favour of online check-in.

You are now obliged to check-in online at least four hours prior to departure and not more than that 15 days in advance of travel.

This means that if you are away for more than 15 days you will most likely have to go and find an internet cafe to check in for your return trip and print out your boarding cards. Not an ideal scenario at all.

If you fail to check-in online you will be met with a penalty at the airport of approx £40 which will be classed as a “Boarding pass re-issue fee”.
