Carcassonne - CCF

Carcassonne (previously called Salvaza) is a well-established airport in the Aude department just off the A61 autoroute which links Toulouse with the mediterranean coast.

It is quite a busy little airport and the terminal building is rather small and can get very crowded at times. The name is synonymous with the famous medieval cité which is a World Hertitage Site and among the top ten most-visited attractions in France.

You may well get an aerial view of its towers and turrets as you circle to land.

Carcassonne Airport Car Hire

For the best Carcassonne car hire deal follow our guide.

Due to the cramped conditions inside the terminal, the car hire desks are located in a separate building alongside car park P2.

As you exit the baggage hall, the main public car park is directly in front of you and the car hire building is just to the right at about 2 o’clock.

Five car hire companies operate from here – ADA at Carcassonne Airport; Avis at Carcassone Airport; Hertz at Carcassonne Airport; Europcar at Carcassonne Airport; and LOV at Carcassonne Airport.

Carcassonne Airport Flights

Flights to Carcassonne continue to be very popular with both the English and Irish alike. I've even heard one Irish passenger call Carcassonne airport "The gateway to the south of France for the Irish".

To find out which airlines offer flights to Carcassonne and from which airports in the UK and Ireland use our live flight search widget on our flights to Carcassonne page.

Carcassonne Airport Arrivals

As we mentioned above, Carcassonne is quite busy for a regional airport.  There are flights to and from Stansted, East Midlands, Liverpool, Charleroi(Brussels), Dublin, Shannon and Cork.

When you arrive, forget about things like corridors, stairs and escalators.  A short walk across the tarmac takes you into the baggage reclaim hall where there is only one belt and your luggage will be delivered in minutes.  Then its outside into the sunshine (hopefully). Check Carcassone Airport Arrivals for up-to the minute information on your flight.

Carcassonne Airport Departures

As you mount the steps in front of the terminal building, the doors to the left take you into the check-in area.  There isn’t a lot of room in here and the queues often seem worse than they really are as they tend to double back on themselves.

The queue to go through security, at the far left-hand end of the room, often stretches back and becomes entangled with the check-in queues.  If you can, check-in on line and avoid the scrum.  Live departure information is available at Carcassone Airport Departures.

Carcassonne Airport Taxis

Carrcassone Airport Taxis are available at the taxi rank just outside, between the terminal and the car park.  As there are several flights a day here, there are generally always taxis available.

If you are going into Carcassonne or to the medieval cité Carcassonne Airport Buses may be a cheaper alternative.

We recommend Holiday Taxis for a no nonsense online experience. Just click on the image to get an instant online quote for your Carcassonne airport taxi transfer.

Carcassonne Airport Buses

The bus stop is also between the terminal and the car park.  Carcassonne Aiport Buses are run by Agglo Bus and connect the airport not only with the town centre and railway station but also the medieval city. If you dont fancy the bus Carcassonne Airport Taxis are available.

Carcassonne Airport Parking

As you approach the airport the signs direct you to Salvaza Airport which can be a little confusing and the route appears to be somewhat circuitous so it is important to follow the signs carefully.  The main car park is P1 in front of the terminal building.  There is also an overflow car park P2.  In either case, take a ticket and pay at the paypoint before you return to your car. For a full guide to tariffs check out our guide to Carcassonne Airport Parking.

Carcassonne Airport Bars and Restaurants

The Carcassonne Airport bar and restaurant is on the first floor and overlooks the runway.  You can buy drinks, snacks or full meals.  If you park in P2 and take a meal, they will validate your car park ticket for free.

Carcassonne Airport Shops

Carcassonne Airport shops can be found at what was the original entrance to the terminal. Look for the orange canvas cover and you will see the entrance to the shop at the top of the steps.

Carcassonne Weather

Carcassonne is in the south western part of France and generally enjoys good summer weather.  The proximity of the hills, known as the Black Mountains, can have an effect on the weather and it is generally a few degrees cooler than the coastal resorts.  For a local ten day forecast see our page on Carcassonne weather.
