Avignon - AVN

Avignon is in southern Provence, on the banks of the river Rhone, crossed by the famous bridge of  the nursery rhyme (of which only half remains).

Seat of the Popes for several hundred years, the impressive Palais des Papes attracts visitors from across the world.  In August enjoy the Avignon Festival when performances of all types take place in the large square in front of the Palais.

The airport is found to the south-east of the city accessed via junctions 23 or 24 of the A7 motorway.

The car park for hire cars is in front of you slightly to your left as you exit the building.

Avignon Airport Arrivals

Arriving at Avignon can be quite spectacular.  Below you is the silver ribbon of the river Rhone, a truly immense river this far south, and to the east the distinctive peak of Mont Ventoux.

The summit of the mountain is often shrouded in mist and the white rock face looks like snow.  The aircraft taxis to within a few yards of the terminal building leaving just a short walk to passport control and baggage reclaim.

Live arrival information is available at  Avignon Airport Arrivals.

Avignon Airport Departures

Whether arriving by car, taxi or bus for Avignon airport departures, you won’t have far to carry your luggage as all three can stop very close to the terminal building.

Avignon Airport Taxis

The Avignon airport taxi rank is easy to find, just outside the doors marked “sortie”  An Avignon airport taxi into Avignon centre should take around 15 minutes and cost in the region of 25 euros.

If you need the station you should be aware that Avignon Centre is, as its name suggests, is in the city, but the new TGV station is to the east and slightly further away.

We recommend Holiday Taxis for a no nonsense online experience. Just click on the image to get an instant online quote for your Avignon airport taxi transfer.

Avignon airport transfers can be a nice way of getting from Avignon airport to your destination if you don't fancy Avignon airport car hire or getting a shuttle bus. There are no Avignon airport bus services to and from Avignon Airport.  You can get a taxi (see above) or get someone to meet you, but for maximum flexibility what about a hire car?  To get a free on-line quote use our booking engine at the top of this page.

Avignon Airport Parking

There are two car parks at Avignon airport, neither of which is very far from the terminal.  In P1 which is the nearest, the first 30 minutes are free and up to 1 hour is only 1.50 euros.

There is a car park payment machine just inside the terminal or you can pay on exit using Carte Bleu.  Beware, non-french credit cards will not work in the machines for Avignon airport parking.

Avignon Airport Bars and Restaurants

There is a popular aero club at Avignon Airport and the club has a bar/restaurant called Les Ailes Blanches.  Actually inside the terminal is Le Petit Prince.  This sells hot and cold drinks with the usual range of snacks.  Also available are light meals, just the job before your flight.

There is also a Courtepaille restaurant 200 metres from the terminal.

All in all, Avignon airport bars and restaurants are actually quite good, particularly the Courtepaille.

Avignon Airport Shops

Avignon airport is very samll so there is only one small shop inside the airport terminal and a space alongside where you can pick up tourist leaflets.

Avignon Weather

Avignon is in southern Provence and therefore enjoys the hot dry summers typical of the region.  The autumn can sometimes be stormy and floods are not unusual while the short winters can be very cold but usually quite dry.  For an up-to-date 10 day forecast read our Avignon weather page.
